The recently spotted 2022 Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 has the same engine as the new generation KTM Duke 390
Husqvarna is working on the 2022 Svartpilen 401 and has been spotted road-testing the motorcycle which is based on the 2022 KTM Duke 390 overseas.
Visually, the recently spotted Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 continues with the round headlight, inverted front fork and wire-spoked wheels.
But, it has new components like the flyscreen, front mudguard, radiator covers and fuel tank (thankfully, the funky design theme has been retained).
The tail light looks pretty much the same as the current Svartpilen 401, but the slim rear fender is new. It should come with a new TFT instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity as well.
For model year 2022, the Svartpilen 401 will get a new heart. This is the same engine that was seen powering the completely overhauled 2022 KTM Duke 390 which was caught out in the public by April this year.
But, that is how much is known about the powerplant, for, new engine cases do not reveal the changes that have taken place inside.
The motor could have undergone a major overhaul, have more capacity and as a result a bit more power for all we know. But, since the bike will be kept (UK) A2-licence friendly, the maximum power output will not exceed 47 BHP.
Also new is the steel trellis frame, while the steel subframe and alloy swingarm are new too. These resemble the ones seen on the new family of KTM Dukes that are under development, but differ slightly in terms of design.
Expect the motorcycle to be introduced globally next year and these changes should also be applied to the Vitpilen. But the chances of them being launched in India remain slim. If Husqvarna is serious about its presence here, it should introduce the new 401s in the market after their international debut.
