The reveal of the 2022 Civic sedan, which Honda claims is the most fun-to-drive and technologically advanced Civic sedan model, has taken place in the USA today.
Honda says the 2022 Civic sedan is a modern expression of classic Civic values, inside and out. The designers even revisited design concepts of previous generation Civics, and also, the model stays true to the prototype that was revealed last year.
The car features slim LED headlights, a long bonnet, small grille and large air intake situated in the bumper. Along the sides, it has slim A-pillars, a rising beltline and a strong shoulder crease that runs from the bonnet to the wide-set LED tail lamps. The sedan also has a boot lid with an aero trailing edge and a simple bumper.
Inside, the Civic sedan is equipped with a partial (7-inch display in LX, EX and Sport variants) or full digital instrument cluster (customisable 10.2-inch screen in Touring variant) and a 7-inch central touchscreen (9-inch in Touring).
Thankfully, Honda has retained the physical power/volume and radio knobs, while hard buttons have also been provided to navigate the audio menu, skip music tracks, among other functions.
The touchscreen systems come with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while other features such as wireless charging (Touring) and Bose Premium sound system (Touring) are also on offer in the car.
But, the striking element in the interior is the metal honeycomb mesh on the dash that conceals the air vents. The simple and clean interior layout of the Civic sedan which also comes with new front seats, says Honda, indicates the direction for its future models.
Two 4-cylinder engine choices – a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol (158 HP and 187 Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbo petrol (180 HP and 240 Nm) – are on offer with the sedan and both come paired to a CVT.
Driving modes such as ‘Eco’ and ‘Normal’ are offered as standard, while 2.0-litre Sport and 1.5-litre Touring trims get a ‘Sport’ mode as well.
At the 2022 Honda Civic sedan reveal, the carmaker claimed the model has the most rigid structure in Civic history. What’s more, the Civic’s suspension has been tuned for responsiveness, comfort and fun, claims Honda.
Safety-wise, the 2022 Civic sedan comes with the standard passive safety features along with active and driver assistive tech such as traffic jam assist, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, low-speed braking control, among others.
