The 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor has a new 3.0-litre engine that has 2 turbos
Ford has revealed the 2022 Ranger Raptor, a performance pickup truck with a twin-turbo V6 heart and credible off-road prowess. The Dearborn, Michigan-based firm says the vehicle is built for true enthusiasts.
The second-generation Ranger Raptor, developed by Ford Performance, looks bold thanks to the large F-O-R-D lettering on the grille, tough bumpers, flared wheel arches, 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped with all terrain tyres, side steps and functional vents.
The performance pickup truck has matrix LED headlights, LED DRLs, LED taillights, and tow hooks, while the cargo bed is large enough to be able to carry all the equipment an enthusiast would need.
Stepping inside the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor, one would find orange accents everywhere, leather sports heated steering wheel, magnesium paddle shifters and sports seats in the front and rear.
The car features a 12.4-inch digital instrument display, 12-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, 10-speaker B&O sound system and more goodies.
Power comes from a new twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre EcoBoost V6 petrol engine that delivers 288 PS and 491 Nm of torque. The engine has an anti-lag system that keeps the turbos spinning for up to 3 seconds after the driver lets go off the throttle.
The motor is teamed to a 10-speed automatic transmission that is connected to a 4-wheel drive system with on-demand 2-speed transfer case and front and rear locking differentials.
Ford Performance has made changes to the Ranger’s chassis to create the Raptor. Further, the pickup truck has a 2.3 mm-thick steel bash plate up front, shields for the engine and transfer case and the vehicle also has completely redesigned long travel suspension.
The ultimate performance derivative of the new Ranger gets an electronically-controlled active exhaust system, Trail Control (think cruise control, but for off-roading), 7 drive modes (Normal, Sport, Slippery, Sand, Mud/Ruts, Rock Crawl and Baja) and more technology.
From 2023, the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor will also get a 2.0-litre EcoBlue biturbo diesel engine option. Further details about the oil burner model will be revealed closer to launch.
The new Ranger Raptor will be the first model from the new generation Ranger line-up to arrive in Europe. Customer deliveries will start in late summer.
