The 2022 Audi A8 will come with mild-hybrid V6 and V8 petrol engines
German luxury carmaker Audi has revealed the model year 2022 A8 luxury sedan that has received a design refresh.
The car has new digital matrix headlights, OLED tail lamps, restyled bumpers and a new radiator grille which help differentiate it from the 2021 model.
Globally, the 2022 A8 will be offered with a choice of 11 exterior colours which include 5 matte paints as well. Audi will also offer a chrome exterior package and an ‘S line’ exterior package which brings blacked exterior elements.
What’s more, Audi has stated that the wheel range for the revised A8 starts at 18 inches in size and goes till 21 inches and includes 6 new designs.
Inside, the 2022 Audi A8 will feature the same cabin design as the current model. It has 2 new 10.1-inch screens in the back, Matrix LED reading lights, MMI Navigation plus and Audi connect (infotainment, navigation, safety and service among other features).
It can also be equipped with features like the night vision assistant, surround view cameras and ambient light package plus among others.
There are several seat options on offer which top with the aptly named relaxation seat in the A8 L that offers numerous adjustment options, and a footrest (fitted to the back of the front passenger seat).
That is not all when it comes to the new age technology that the 2022 Audi A8 is equipped with. The luxury sedan comes with about 40 driver assistance systems, including the Audi pre sense basic and Audi pre sense front safety systems, that are offered in 3 packs namely ‘Park’, ‘City’ and ‘Tour’.
The global engine range comprises a 3.0-litre V6 and 4.0-litre V8 petrol engines and a diesel motor for now. Each variant has 48 V mild-hybrid assistance as standard.
Topping the range will be the sporty Audi S8 which has a bi-turbo V8 motor making 563 BHP and 800 Nm of torque. Later, a plug-in hybrid model will also join the lineup.
All engines offered with the 2022 Audi A8 are connected to an 8-speed tiptronic transmission which sends the motor’s power to all 4 wheels through the quattro system that has a self-locking centre differential.
As standard, the range also features adaptive air suspension and progressive steering. The S8 gets all-wheel steering (optional in regular A8), predictive active suspension and sport differential in addition. Ceramic brake disks are optional extras.
The German carmaker has readied a model named A8 L Horch which is exclusive to the Chinese market. It is 130 mm longer than even the A8 L at 5.45 metres, has different exterior elements and comes with a 2-tone paint scheme and a cabin that is even plusher.
To be available in Europe from December this year, the refreshed A8 costs from €99,500 (Rs. 86.28 lakhs) in Germany, while the S8 is priced at €144,800 (Rs. 1.26 crore).
