Yes you heard that right, the iconic Tata Safari name is making a comeback as the carmaker just teased it in their latest video. However, you can instantly notice the familiar silhouette of the Gravitas, which might be a big setback for Safari purists.
The upcoming flagship SUV of Tata Motors will hit the showrooms this month and bookings for the same will commence soon.
It was yesterday when their social media channels posted a tribute video for Safari. People started speculating that it will come back with a BS6 engine or the Hexa Safari edition is going to launch soon.
It is now clear that the 7-seater version of the Harrier will carry the iconic name forward. It is based on the OMEGARC platform which they say is an adaptive architecture that allows for further drive train enhancements including all-wheel drive and possibilities of electrification in future.
This statement means that it won’t come with AWD for sure when it’s launched. Also, we believe AWD will not be offered at all even in the future as Tata Motors told us during the Harrier drive that the demand for AWD variant is less than 2 percent.
The new Tata Safari will share the same engine with the Harrier but the tuning might be slightly different. Currently the 2.0-litre diesel engine produces 170 PS and 350 Nm torque in the Harrier. It comes with 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options.
Keeping in mind the production-ready model showcased at the Auto Expo, the dashboard looks identical to the Harrier. Tata might offer some more features in the flagship SUV.
Let us know in the comments section if you think this product will be able to carry this strong legacy forward with the Safari nameplate?
