The 2021 Skoda Octavia RS has been introduced with traditional petrol and diesel variants, putting to rest fears of enthusiasts. The 242 HP TSI model is expected to be launched in India after the official international launch.
For those who do not know, the fourth generation Skoda Octavia RS made its debut in March this year and it was a plug-in hybrid.
Named the Octavia RS iV, it came with a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine mated to an 85 kW electric motor to produce a combined output of 245 PS and 400 Nm. It can also be driven on pure electric mode for up to 60 km (claimed).
Now, the Czech automaker has introduced petrol and diesel versions of the Octavia RS and it is the petrol variant which will come to India, mostly as a CBU import.
The 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged 4-cylinder engine develops 242 HP and a peak torque of 370 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG. We expect only the DSG to be launched in India.
The 2021 Skoda Octavia RS will complete the 0-100 km/hr run in 6.7 seconds and the top speed is limited electronically to 250 km/hr.
The diesel variant of the Octavia RS comes with a 2.0-litre TDI unit that makes 197 HP and 400 Nm of torque. But it is unlikely to be launched in India.
The 2021 Octavia RS gets a bold new design and the interior gets an overhaul as well. There is a new dashboard, digital instrument cluster, bigger infotainment screen and a new style steering wheel. There are sport seats on offer as well.
While Skoda is expected to launch the Octavia RS in India after the international launch, we also expect the carmaker to launch the RS iV, as it will cater to a wider audience with its hybrid capabilities.
Skoda had launched the Octavia RS 245 in India earlier this year and the model is priced at Rs. 35.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). Expect the 2021 Octavia RS to cost similar, while the RS iV could be priced a bit higher.
