Porsche has announced the specs of the 2021 911 GT3 sportscar and has also officially revealed images of the pre-production model.
Known as the 992-generation 911 GT3, the GT division’s product will retain the 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-6 petrol motor that is derived from the unit found in the most-recent Speedster.
Power figures are expected to match that of the Speedster, with 503 HP at the driver’s disposal and despite being strangled by new emission norms, redline will still be the same 9000 RPM.
Crucially, the engine will continue to be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while a 7-speed PDK will be offered as well. The car, with all the fluids and the driver, will weigh about 1430 kg, the same as the previous version despite being larger.
However, the biggest difference will be in how the car drives. Porsche engineers have fitted the car with double wishbone suspension at the front, a first for a road-going 911, so as to further fine-tune the geometry of front wheels.
The wheels, which will be 20-inch ones upfront and 21-inch jobbies at the rear, will also house bigger brake discs. The front rotors are now 408 mm units instead of 380 mm in the previous GT3 and carbon ceramic discs will also be available.
While the 2021 Porsche 911 GT3 specs are impressive, visually, the sportscar looks purposeful what with a wider track, air vents attached to the carbon fibre bonnet and the big rear “swan neck” wing. The latter two should also improve downforce levels without increasing drag.
Inside, the prototype features the new digital and analogue instrument cluster as seen on other 992 911 models, carbon seats and a roll cage. The difference here is that instead of a small rocker switch, there is a proper lever for the drive selector, which is a nice touch.
According to Porsche, the new GT3 is substantially quicker around the Nurburgring Nordschleife and at the same time retains the driving feel that older models are known for.
