2021 Mercedes Maybach S580 Front
The front end of the car is peppered with nice details

2021 Mercedes-Maybach S580 has been revealed and it should do well to appease those who find the latest S-Class too rough.

What can one say when it comes to the looks other than that it is a grand machine. The two-tone paint job (there are 10 finishes), the bold grille with Maybach lettering, and the bright and detailed lower air dam, immediately state that this is not a “normal” S-Class.

Look to the side and it is evident that the car is longer than the S-Class, there is chrome window trim, a triangular rear quarter window, and even an illuminated Maybach logo is there on the rear pillar.

We especially like the old-school 20-inch retro wheels, but there is a 21-inch option to choose from as well.

Since the car is all about comfort and rear seat space, the wheelbase has been stretched by 180 mm and all of it has been used to increase the rear passenger space.

Like in a Rolls-Royce, the extended rear doors can be operated electrically, while the individually adjustable rear bucket seats feature backrests that can adjust between 19 and 44 degrees and there is a deployable leg rest on the passenger side.

Heating, cooling and multicontour massage (even calf massage, yes!) features are offered and of course the armrests and door panels are heated, while the “chauffeur” mode allows the rear occupant to motor the front passenger seat forward.

If that is not enough owners can also select an “Executive Rear Seat Package” that adds more wood trim, a full-length center console, and deployable tray tables. Rear-seat champagne cooler and custom solid metal flutes are optional too.

Being based on an S-Class, the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S580 also has the latest generation MBUX infotainment with five infotainment screens as standard.

Powering the car is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 with EQ Boost mild-hybrid tech putting out 496 HP and 700 Nm. It comes mated to a 9-speed auto and there is all-wheel drive, rear-axle steering and an exclusive Maybach drive mode too.

Set to arrive at US dealerships in the middle of next year, pricing of the 2021 Mercedes-Maybach S580 is yet to be revealed. But expect it to cost around $185,000 (Rs. 1.37 crores) in the USA. It is expected to launch in India by the end of 2021 or early 2022.
