Mahindra has launched the 2021 Thar with a starting price tag of Rs. 9.80 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom), in the Indian market.
The capable off-roader comes in a total of 6 variants for the petrol and 7 variants for the diesel with three different rear section roof options that includes soft top, convertible top and hard top.
Top-of-the-line variants are priced at Rs. 13.55 lakhs for the petrol and Rs. 13.75 lakhs for the diesel variants.
Featuring a body-on-frame construction, the 2021 Thar comes with elements such as electric driveline disconnect (front axle), mechanical locking differential (rear axle), shift-on-the-fly transfer case with high and low reduction gear, brake locking differential, removable doors, among others, to aid off-roading.
It has a 226 mm ground clearance, is capable of wading waters up to 650 mm deep and has 41.8 degrees approach, 36.8 degrees departure and 27 degrees ramp over angles.
But do not for once think that it is a bare-bones off-road car, since the 2021 Mahindra Thar price will get customers features like tilt adjustable steering wheel, central locking, tail gate mounted spare wheel, LED tail lights, fog lamps, one-touch lane change indicator and rear parking sensors as standard.
Opt for the top model and the new Thar will come with even more features such as 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, voice commands, SMS readout, TPMS, 18-inch alloys, steering mounted audio and phone controls, among various others.
Safety features include dual airbags, ABS, EBD, brake assist, seat belt reminder, passenger side airbag deactivation switch as standard and even more are available, including ISOFIX child seat mounts, on the top-spec variant.
There are six colour options available with the new Thar, namely – Aquamarine, Galaxy Grey, Mystic Copper, Napoli Black, Red Rage and Rocky Beige.
Engines powering the 2021 Mahindra Thar will be a BS6 compliant 2.0-litre mStallion 150 turbo petrol engine that makes 150 HP and up to 320 Nm (300 Nm for MT) and a 2.2-litre mHawk 130 turbo diesel engine producing 130 HP and 300 Nm. Both engines can be had with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options.
