Next generation Mahindra Thar bookings commence at dealer level.
2021 Mahindra Thar bookings have commenced as select dealers start accepting orders. The second generation Thar is expected to launched ahead of the festive season by August.
We recently saw a test mule that dropped heavy camouflage revealing some details. It looks much bigger in size than the previous generation model. The styling elements are modern too keeping the retro look intact.
The interior of the new gen Mahindra Thar will get a new steering wheel. New instrument cluster with digital MID will be offered. New dashboard design and large touchscreen infotainment unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Mahindra will iron out the rough edges and improve the ergonomics of the off-road vehicle. We have seen test mules with front facing second row seats.
The new model is also coming with soft top and hard top configuration options. Moreover, the new gen Thar will come with both diesel and petrol engine options now.
Mahindra is likely to give it the new 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine. It produces 187 BHP and 380 Nm of torque. Also, a 2.2-litre diesel engine will be offered that produces 140 PS and 320 Nm torque.
Another new attraction for the Thar will be a 6-speed automatic transmission. It will come with a standard 6-speed manual gearbox though. Of course, 4×4 will be offered with low ratio gearbox and differential lock.
The new Mahindra Thar is expected to come with a starting price upwards of Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom).
