BMW has updated the R 1250 GS and the R 1250 GS Adventure for 2021. The changes include new colour schemes and an updated list of standard features across variants.
The GS lineup completes 40 years of its existence this year and this is why both the R 1250 GS and the Adventure get a special ’40 years of GS’ paint scheme as well. This rounds the total number of colour options for 2021 to four- Triple Black, Light White non-metallic, Style Rallye, and the ’40 years of GS edition’.
Along with the colour options, the feature-list of the top-of-the-line GS has also been updated. The standard features now include Dynamic Traction Control with new Eco mode, USB and 12V sockets, new rear LED indicators, and Style Rallye bikes also get a stainless-steel luggage carrier as standard.
Another feature that is now standard with the BMW R 1250 GS series is BMW’s Integral ABS Pro system. It is a type of combined-braking system that engages both the front and rear brakes simultaneously when you use the front brake. The system further works in tandem with the six-axis IMU to adjust braking performance, according to road conditions.
If all this isn’t enough, BMW is offering numerous optional features as well. The list includes Driving Mode Pro which offers more riding modes, Hill Start Control Pro, adaptive headlamps, 30 mm handlebar risers, etc. You can also opt for heated seats, which is a very practical addition.
Performance-wise, the BMW R 1250 GS series has changed little. The obvious change is that the 1254cc twin-cylinder boxer-engine now adheres to the Euro 5 norms. This motor makes 136 HP of power at 7750 RPM and 143 Nm of torque at 6250 RPM. The 1250s also get BMW’s ShiftCam tech (variable valve timing) which spreads the power throughout the rev range for better usability.
Lastly, the updated BMW R 1250 GS sees only a $100 (roughly Rs. 8000/-) price hike over the previous model. However, the ’40 years of GS’ edition costs around $2000 (roughly Rs. 1.5 lakhs) more than the base model. We expect the 2021 GS series to receive a similar price hike in India as well.
