For the price, the facelifted 2021 BMW 5-Series comes with tonnes of features and a choice of petrol and diesel engines
BMW has introduced the 2021 5-Series with a starting asking price of Rs. 62.90 lakhs (ex-showroom and introductory), in India today.
The luxury sedan is now longer by 27 mm (wheelbase unchanged) and upfront, it comes with new adaptive LED headlights with L-shaped DRLs, revised kidney grille, restyled bumpers, new LED tail lamps and trapezoidal tailpipe finishers.
Models with the M Sport package feature a more dynamic appearance with enlarged air intakes, a new rear diffuser and Laserlight units. Also, the 2021 BMW 5-Series gets new colourways such as Bernina Grey Amber and Phytonic Blue.
Stepping inside, the car’s cabin has not changed by much. It still has a driver-focused cockpit design, is made of high-quality materials and is equipped with features such as a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and touchscreen, 4-zone automatic climate control, new galvanic embellisher for controls, soft-close doors, ambient lighting, a glass roof, smartphone connectivity with wireless charging, and more.
Customers can choose between synthetic Sensatec perforated trim on the petrol variant, and a selection of Dakota leather and Nappa leather upholstery on the diesel variants.
Speaking of variants, the car will come with a choice of 1 petrol and 2 diesel power units. The 530i model has a 1998cc petrol motor putting out 252 HP and 350 Nm. It does the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 6.2 seconds and does 15.56 km/l.
On the other hand, the 520d variant relies on a 1995cc diesel unit capable of making 190 HP and 400 Nm. This is the most fuel efficient model with 22.48 km/l claimed figure. The 0-100 km/hr time is 7.5 seconds.
The fastest 2021 BMW 5-Series model to reach 100 km/hr from nought (in 5.7 seconds) is the 530d with a 2993cc 6-cylinder diesel engine that puts out 265 HP and 620 Nm. It also returns 18.59 km/l. All models come with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission.
Being a BMW, the luxury can also gets ‘Launch Control’ function, drive modes, auto start-stop, adaptive suspension, and the braking system is made up of lightweight discs with 4-piston aluminium calipers at the front and single piston calipers with an integrated electromechanical parking brake at the rear.
As standard, the business sedan rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and sports the latest of driver assistance systems, parking assistant with remote control parking, and numerous other safety systems.
