Ever since Bentley launched the Bentayga, its only SUV in the range, the car has done exactly what it was conceived for – bring money to the firm’s coffers.
With over 20,000 units sold across the globe, the SUV has found its place among the British manufacturer’s core models.
Having added different engines to the model that was first launched in 2015, Bentley has provided the vehicle a facelift, to bring it in line with its latest design philosophy that can be seen in the latest iteration of the Continental GT and the Flying Spur. Notably, it is also the first car launched under Bentley’s “Beyond100” business plan.
Up front is a new matrix grille that is more upright. The bumper too has seen revisions. The LED matrix headlamps now use the cut crystal software seen in the marque’s latest products and there are heated windscreen wipers, yes, heated wiper blades!
Where the changes seem dramatic is at the back, where a total redesign can be seen. The tailgate is now full-width and has the lamps within it. The width can be really noticed especially since Bentley has increased the rear track width by 20 mm that is sure to bring in more dynamic benefits as well. Of course, there are newly designed wheels to choose from for the discerning buyer, if the existing range is not up to taste.
Known for their plush interiors, Bentley took the opportunity to spruce a few things on the inside of the SUV as well. The centre fascia, steering wheel, door trims and seats are all-new claims the manufacturer. The infotainment is a 10.9-inch display unit that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. The tablets behind the front seats have also grown in size, apart from there being an increase in rear legroom for added comfort.
The new model will initially be launched with a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol engine that develops 542 BHP and 770 Nm of torque. This model can reach 100 km/hr in 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 290 km/hr. The W12-powered Speed version and a plug-in Hybrid (in select markets) will follow suit.
The car is expected to be launched in India after international deliveries commence. The pre-facelift Bentayga was retailed at Rs. 3.78 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new version might command a premium over that.
