2020 Skoda Superb facelift is here to give its sibling VW Passat some sleepless nights.
The 2020 Skoda Superb facelift comes with a shaper and cleaner design. The front fascia of the vehicle gets radical looks that are complemented by the new LED Matrix headlamps that were first seen with Audi cars. The sharp lines running across the bonnet and a sleek bumper ensure that the car is a head turner.
At the rear, the Skoda logo is replaced by the brand’s lettering running across the boot. The all-LED tail lights get subtle graphic changes and come with the sequential turn indicators. A chrome strip runs across the boot and merges with the sharp ends of both the tail lamps. The car is offered with new colour schemes including Race Blue and Crystal Black.
Moving to the plush interiors of the Superb, one would say that it is superbly laid out. The car gets new upholstery options and some chrome bits for the centre console and dashboard. The seats can be wrapped in either leather or Alcantara and it also gets illuminated under-seat storage compartments.
Engine options on the Superb include a 1.5-litre TSI engine that is good for 150 BHP and comes with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch AT. A 2.0-litre TSI engine is offered that produces 190 BHP and is mated to a DSG gearbox. The same 2.0-litre TSI engine can be had with 272 BHP with all-wheel drive and a DSG gearbox.
The 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine churns out 120 BHP comes with a DSG gearbox. The 2.0-litre TDI Evo gives out 150 BHP and is available with a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch AT. This engine can also be had with 190 BHP and a standard DSG transmission but with optional all-wheel drive.
A new plug-in hybrid system is offered with the Superb and it gets a 1.4-litre TSI developing 156 BHP with an electric motor that can contribute about 115 BHP. This engine is mated to a 6-speed DSG gearbox. The car gets a 13 kWh battery pack that can deliver a range of 55 km solely on electric power.
Skoda will be offering the car with over-the-air updates and two new assistance systems. The Trailer Assist and Area View with four cameras providing a 360-degree view of the car are the new additions. There are multiple new features on offer to keep up with the new competition.
We expect the Czech carmaker to introduce the facelifted Superb in India later this year. It will compete against the likes of Volkswagen Passat, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry in the Indian car market.
