The Mahindra Thar has a huge fan following thanks to its go-anywhere and rugged nature. We have been seeing test mules of the new generation Thar since a really long time now.

The Indian automaker has now confirmed that the new Thar will be revealed officially in India on 15th August 2020, i.e. our Independence Day.

While the older model was pretty much bare bones in terms of comfort and features, the automaker has stated that the new generation will be a leap in technology, comfort and safety while the Thar’s core USPs such as the off-road abilities and design won’t be compromised.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar will come equipped with features like airbags, ABS, touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, reverse parking sensors, remote locking and the likes.

The SUV is also expected to be offered with a hard-top variant straight from the factory. The vehicle will also get a modern cabin as per the images of the test mules that we’ve seen.

In terms of mechanicals, the new Mahindra Thar will get a 2.2-litre diesel engine as well as a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine. This time, the SUV will get a 6-speed AT from Aisin along with a 6-speed MT too.

The new Mahindra Thar will rival the Force Gurkha BS6 but apart from that, it doesn’t really have any serious competitors in the same segment. Maruti is expected to launch the Jimny in India but that will happen only in 2021.

The design of the new SUV is expected to be an evolution of the outgoing model. The 2020 Mahindra Thar teaser doesn’t reveal much details about the car apart from the unveil date though. What do you think will be the pricing of the new Thar? Let us know in the comments below.
