The 2020 Mahindra Thar to make its debut at the upcoming Auto Expo.
It’s been almost a decade since the Mahindra Thar was first seen on the Indian soil and since, it has made its mark when it comes to off-roader SUVs. The Thar is amongst the most capable off-roading vehicles in the Indian market. The buffed, boxy, 4-wheel-drive SUV needs a minimum introduction.
But with all these years, changing norms and standards have hit all the car makers pretty hard and it’s time for a refresh. The 2020 Mahindra Thar will soon be revealed at the upcoming Auto Expo and will make it’s first appearance without camouflage, in full flesh.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will be brand spanking new, it is likely to get a revised chassis and an upgraded mill as the current one doesn’t comply to the BS6 norms and the deadline has been declared as 1st April 2020 for the BS6 compliancy. The new Thar will supposedly boast a 2.2-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The upcoming Mahindra Thar seems to be extended in all dimensions to gather more road presence as if the older one didn’t do enough. Few cosmetic tweaks can be expected on the appearance as well. The unfinished angles derived from the Thar DNA are probably smoothened now and the car would look more contemporary. The front profile will retain the Jeep CJ derived look consisting of the 7-slat grille. It will get wider tyres than before.
The interior should rather up the ante with plush seats, larger driver information display, multifunctional steering, sturdy switches, more convenient AC system, etc. As of the now the only competitor on the list for the 2020 Mahindra Thar is the Force Gurkha as the Suzuki Jimmy seems long due to hit the Indian roads.
