2020 Kia Rio Facelift Revealed, India Bound?

Kia Rio facelift revealed with new equipment and mechanicals.

Kia updates the Rio for European markets

Kia Motors has a strong global presence. The South Korean carmaker has managed to do well in the Indian market too. Our market is a hard nut to crack for new brands.

Their popular global seller Kia Rio hatchback has got an update today. For the uninitiated, it is based on the Hyundai i20 platform.

The 2020 Kia Rio Facelift gets slightly refreshed exterior, updated interior with more features and new engine on offer. It comes with new colour options as well Perennial Grey and Sporty Blue.

The front profile gets sleeker Tiger-nose grille, new bumper with sporty styling and new LED headlights with integrated DRLs.

The interior gets some changes as well. The semi-digital instrument cluster gets a higher res 4.2-inch digital display. There is a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with ‘Phase II’ UVO Connect telematics.

Kia is offering interior colour customisation too in the form of new blue colour pack. The GT Line trim comes with sporty exteriors and all-black interior theme.

Powering the Rio facelift is a new 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with 48V mild hybrid tech. It is available in 100 PS and 120 PS tunes. The latter generates 200 Nm of torque output.

This engine comes with drive modes – Eco, Sport and Normal. The motor is available with 6-speed manual and 7-speed dual clutch auto transmission options.

The hatchback is also available with 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor.

The update comes with a new clutch-by-wire manual transmission. It means the clutch is electronically controlled which offers better fuel efficiency.

Some of the safety tech includes Lane Following Assist, Smart Cruise Control, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Kia will introduce the updated Rio in the European market during Q3 2020. We might get the Rio hatchback in India but it hasn’t been confirmed yet.
