The Hyundai i20 BS6 misses out on a diesel engine as well as the petrol-AT configuration.
The Hyundai i20 BS6 has been launched in India. The premium hatchback’s 1.2-litre Kappa VTVT petrol engine has been upgraded to meet the new emission norms while the 1.4-litre CRDI diesel engine has been discontinued. Hyundai has also discontinued the petrol-automatic variants of the i20.
The petrol engine is the same one as the Grand i10 NIOS and it produces 83 HP and 114 Nm in the hatchback, so the numbers are expected to be similar in the i20 as well. This engine comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the Sportz CVT and Asta (O) CVT variants have been discontinued, a Hyundai dealer also told us that the base Era variant will be removed from the line-up.
Compared to the BS4 version, the BS6 version costs Rs. 15,000/- more for all variants. It is unclear if any changes will be made to the equipment levels but the dealership we spoke to mentioned that just like the Venue, even the i20 might get a couple of extra features.
As of now, the top trim of the Hyundai i20 gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, LED DRLs, auto climate control, reverse camera, rear AC vents, keyless go with push button start, ABS, and front, side & curtain airbags.
The Hyundai i20 rivals the Maruti Baleno, Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz and Tata Altroz. The next generation i20 will make its global debut in the next few days and it is going to be launched in India in the coming months.
