The new generation Honda City has been revealed that comes with a sporty RS variant too.
The much awaited fifth generation Honda City has been revealed. The sedan looks fresh thanks to the all-new design language. It has no resemblance to the outgoing City and comes with a mature styling.
The front profile of the new City looks inspired by the new Honda Civic thanks to the similar LED headlights and the grille. The front and rear bumper styling is new which looks more sporty.
The side profile looks mature which appears to be longer in size to add some room inside the cabin. The machine cut alloy wheels look much better than the outgoing model. The ORVMs are positioned on the door rather than the A-pillar.
The rear profile gets a wraparound LED tail light cluster and the overall design looks neat. The range-topping RS variant gets sporty styling with black elements.
The interior of the new City looks fresh and quite different than the outgoing model. There is a new 3-spoke steering wheel design with integrated controls for the infotainment and cruise control. The instrument cluster gets conventional analogue dials with digital MID in the centre.
The AC vents have a new design and there is a large 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre console. The interior also gets ambient lighting which can be seen on the dashboard.
The touch sensitive control panel for AC is replaced by conventional knobs in the new City. The seats have also been redesigned and come with new headrests.
It comes with Honda Connect system that gets integrated cellular network connectivity. It offers remote operation of the vehicle along with geo fence, speed alert, security alert, automatic collision detection, etc. The new City is equipped with 6 airbags.
In terms of engine options, Honda will offer a range of petrol and diesel engines globally with the new City. However, there is a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine on offer with the new City that produces 122 PS at 5500 RPM and 173 Nm of torque at 2000-4500 RPM and has a claimed fuel efficiency of 23.8 km/l.
The new City still gets disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at rear. The RS variant gets 185/55/16 tyres while the other variants get 185/60/15 tyres. The new City has a turning radius of 5 metres.
This turbo petrol engine will be available with a CVT automatic transmission. It will also come with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor. The new Honda City will be offered in four trims in Thailand – S, V, SV and RS.
We can expect some changes in the India-spec model which is currently on test. It is expected to launch later in 2020 with BS6 petrol and diesel engines. The styling will be similar to the Thailand-spec City. It will give a tough fight to the Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna in the Indian market.
