2020 Audi RS7 Sportback Launched, Priced At Rs. 1.94 Crores

This is a 305 km/hr capable German muscle with a practical bodystyle

The 2020 Audi RS7 Sportback has been launched, with its price pegged at Rs. 1.94 crores (ex-showroom). It can be booked for a token amount of Rs. 10 lakhs.

If you want a car that looks like a brute but still is cosseting on the inside, then the RS7 Sportback is the one for you.

The radiator grille at the front is massive in size and flanked by sleek LED headlamps at its sides. Air dams are big as well, to keep the powertrain cool, with a small splitter finishing the front bumper.

The side of the car is largely muted save for the side skirts and the large 21-inch alloy wheels, while at the rear, the RS7 Sportback means business.

The two large RS-specific oval exhausts and the diffuser are below the LED tail lights. There is a spoiler that automatically extends from the boot lid upwards of 100 km/hr.

The cabin looks fresh with two touchscreen units – 10.1-inch for the main display atop the dash and an 8.6-inch one for the climate control.

The driver gets the 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit instrument display behind the flat bottom steering wheel that comes with large aluminium paddle shifters. The interior is draped with alcantara upholstery.

Other standard tech features are Apple Carplay, Android Auto, wireless phone charging, four USB points, digital radio, and a 16-speaker, 750W Bang & Olufsen audio system.

Powered tailgate, powered and heated side mirrors, power-assisted door closure, electric steering adjustment and privacy glass are also offered, but the panoramic sunroof is optional.

Luggage capacity in the RS7 is 535 litres and 1390 litres with the rear seats folded down. One can customise the car to their tastes too.

The RS7 Sportback gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine producing 600 HP and 800 Nm of torque. It comes with cylinder on demand (COD) technology.

Paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission with the Quattro all-wheel drive system, the 2140 kg model can sprint to 100 km/hr from standstill in 3.6 seconds.

The all-wheel drive system features a 40:60 forward-rear torque split, with up to 85 per cent of engine torque available to the rear “for especially sporty handling”.

The RS7 Sportback gets a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that can recover up to 12 kW while coasting or cruising under light throttle. The start/stop system also benefits from it, drawing on the 48V system at speeds up to 22 km/hr, while saving fuel.

Brakes are 440 mm ceramics with 10-piston callipers at the front and 370 mm discs at the rear. Due to the RS Dynamic Plus pack, the top speed is 305 km/hr.

The dynamic all-wheel steering system also comes part of the dynamic plus pack and it turns the rear wheels by up to five degrees opposite to the fronts at low speeds, and up to two degrees at high speeds.

The package also adds adaptive air suspension, adjusting ride height and comfort on the Audi RS7.

The Audi Drive Select controller now gets “RS 1” and “RS 2” buttons, mirroring the ones on the BMW M5, that can be individually configured.

The top speed of the car is electronically limited to 250 km/hr and can be increased to 280 km/hr with the optional dynamic package and to 305 km/hr with the RS dynamic plus package.

In the safety department, there is adaptive cruise assist with stop and go, traffic jam assist, active lane assist, 360 degree cameras with kerb view, tyre pressure monitoring system, loose wheel detection and an alarm, all as standard.

Competition for the Audi RS7 Sportback comes from the BMW M5 Competition and the Mercedes-AMG E63 S.
