The luxury sedan is introduced with a single 3.0-litre V6 petrol-mild hybrid powertrain.
Audi’s flagship sedan the A8L has been launched in India at a price of Rs 1.56 crore (ex-showroom, India). The 4th-generation sedan is offered in a single 55 TFSI trim level and has received a thorough makeover compared to its predecessor.
The new A8L measures 5302 mm in length, 1945 mm in width and 1488mm in height. This makes it 37 mm longer and 17 mm taller than the outgoing model, albeit 4 mm narrower. At 3128mm, the wheelbase has grown 6 mm as well the 19-inch alloy wheels are standard.
The Audi A8L is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 petrol engine that is mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and comes with a permanent all-wheel-drive system. The engine produces 340 PS and 500 Nm of torque and claims to sprint 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds. The powertrain is also equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology consisting of a belt-starter generator and a 10Ah lithium-ion battery pack. The hybrid system allows the vehicle to coast at speeds from 55-160 kmph with the internal combustion engine switched off, for up to 40 seconds.
The dashboard features a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen for controlling navigation and media and another 8.6-inch curved display below for operating climate control and seating functions. It also gets a standard Bang and Olufsen 3D surround sound system, an advanced voice command function etc.
Other highlights include a new-look multifunction steering wheel, Audi’s ‘Virtual Cockpit’ digital instrument cluster and an optional head-up display. Ambient lighting and a seat massage function are also part of the package.
In terms of safety it gets 8 airbags (there’s an option for two more airbags), ABS, traction control, ESC, hill-start assist and a surround-view camera with 3D view.
