Volkswagen has launched the updated avatar of the Polo and Vento.
Volkswagen’s bread and butter models, the Polo and Vento have been updated for 2019 and launched at Rs. 5.89 – 9.88 lakhs and Rs. 8.76 – 14.49 lakhs respectively. Both cars feature updated styling which takes its inspiration from the Polo GTI which is no longer on sale in India. The front bumpers are carried forward from the GTI for both the models. While the cars get a honeycomb grille, the 2019 Polo features the European-spec Polo inspired tail-lamps and an aggressive rear bumper. The 2019 Vento too features a slightly updated set of LED tail-lamps with GTI inspired rear diffuser on the rear bumper and new dual-tone alloy wheels.
Inside, both the cars carry forward the same dashboard layout. However, Volkswagen Connect is now offered as standard with the Highline trim and above.
The 2019 Volkswagen Polo continues to draw power from the previous 76 PS, 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol and the 90 PS, 1.5-litre diesel engine option. The Polo GT trims are available with a BS4 compliant 1.2-litre turbo petrol producing 105 PS of power and a 1.5-litre diesel engine churning 110 PS. Both engines will be phased out when BS6 emission norms come into effect from April 1, 2020.
The 2019 Volkswagen Vento does the job with the same 1.6-litre petrol churning 105 PS, the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol producing 105 PS as well as a 1.5-litre diesel engine belting 110 PS.
For safety, all variants of the 2019 Volkswagen Polo and Vento get dual airbags, ABS, a seat-belt reminder system, rear parking sensors and a speed alert system. Volkswagen is now also offering 5-years standard warranty for all diesel cars. Petrol cars continue to get the 4-years standard warranty and both can be extended to 7 years.
The 2019 Polo competes with the Maruti Suzuki Swift, the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS and the Ford Figo while the 2019 Vento rivals Hyundai Verna, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Honda City.
