2019 Toyota Camry Spied, Returns 23.27 km/l Mileage

The new Toyota Camry sports an aggressive design with well-kitted interiors.

The design of the new Toyota Camry is a massive departure from the older car

The 2019 Toyota Camry has been spied completely undisguised in what appears to be a dealer-event. Toyota India will launch the new Camry on the 18th of this month and ahead of the car’s unveil, some more details have surfaced. The new Camry is based on the TNGA-K platform with increased dimensions. The new car is more stylish, more comfortable, better equipped and more fuel-efficient than the outgoing model.

The 2019 Toyota Camry features a sharp and futuristic design which is a big departure from the boxy and slightly bland design of the outgoing model. The highlights up front are the slimmer and stretched back headlights and the ‘V’ shaped sleek chrome element housing the blue-tinged Toyota badge.

The grille is two-slatted with the lower portion being prominent and characterised by several lines. There are many creases on the bonnet giving it a sporty appearance. From the side, the car looks stately with the wide stance and the alloy wheels which look premium. The rear is dominated by the large tail-lights which have become very common in the Toyota line-up.

The cabin of the Toyota Camry is properly upmarket and Toyota has carried over the beige theme to give it a more premium look. The dashboard is ‘Y’ shaped and houses the 7.0-inch touch-screen infotainment unit. Toyota has offered physical controls in the form of buttons and knobs which is a neat touch. It appears that Toyota will be offering ash brown wood trim which goes well with the interiors. The steering appears chunky and is leather wrapped. The instrument cluster is large and gives you a lot of information.

Toyota, like always, will generously equip the new Camry. Main equipment includes 9-speaker JBL Dolby audio system comprising of 26.5 cm wide sub-woofer in the trunk with Clari-Fi technology; remote key with memory features for driver seat position, ORVMs and steering column; wireless charging, 12V USB charger, dual USB ports, triple-zone Nanoe climate control, rear armrest with capacitive touchscreen, leather-wrapped, electrically adjustable telescopic steering wheel with controls for audio, calls and cruise control.

The front seats will have an electric adjustment with the driver’s seat getting a memory function. The rear seats will also offer an electronic recline function and an ability to electrically move the front passenger seat forward. A slew of safety features including 9 airbags is also part of the package.

Toyota will offer the Camry only with a petrol hybrid powerplant. It will be carried over from the existing car albeit with more power. The 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine and an 88 kW electric motor will now produce a combined output of 208 BHP and 221 Nm of torque. Toyota says that the engine produces cleaner emissions even at low RPMs and cold temperatures. The company is claiming a fuel efficiency figure of 23.27 km/l which is the best-in-class.

The Camry has been a phenomenal sales success for Toyota globally and the product has also done well in India, particularly with the hybrid version. The new Camry will come via the CKD route and the prices are expected to be between Rs. 38-40 lakhs. The Toyota Camry will continue to take on the likes of the Honda Accord Hybrid, Skoda Superb and Volkswagen Passat.
