2019 Suzuki Gixxer launched, gets cosmetic updates and the addition of FI.
Suzuki has launched the 2019 Gixxer in India at a price of Rs. 1,00,212/- (ex-showroom). The updated motorcycle gets LEDs on both the headlight and tail-light while the single-piece seat has been replaced by a split seat. It is offered in three colour options – black, black and silver, black and blue; all colours are metallic. It is equipped with a new instrument cluster along with front and rear combination LED headlights.
The 2019 Suzuki Gixxer is propelled by a 155cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled SOHC engine which now gets fuel-injection. The motor uses Suzuki’s SEP technology and produces 14.1 PS of power (a reduction of 0.7 PS) and a peak torque of 14 Nm. The bike gets single-channel ABS and has a claimed kerb weight of 140 kgs, making it 6 kgs lighter than its full-faired counterpart, the Gixxer SF. However, weight and seat height has increased by 4 kgs and 15 mm respectively.
The Suzuki Gixxer rivals the Yamaha FZ V3 (Rs. 95,680/-), TVS Apache RTR 160 4V FI ABS (Rs. 99,101/-) and the Honda CB Hornet 160R (starting at Rs. 92,108/-) in the Indian market.
Sales of the Suzuki Gixxer have failed to retain over time as the company’s sales network is weak when compared to rivals. The top-selling motorcycle in the segment happens to be Yamaha’s FZ which got a revision earlier this year in the form of the Version 3.0 model. Honda’s CB Hornet 160R is also struggling in sales while the latest motorcycle in this segment, the TVS Apache 160 4V has got decent traction. Bajaj’s Pulsar NS 160 sales numbers aren’t available as the company clubs it with other similar displacement models.
