The MINI Cooper John Cooper Works edition has been launched in India in a facelifted avatar.
The 2019 MINI Cooper JCW has been launched in India. Based on the MINI Cooper 3-door hatch, the John Cooper Works edition will be brought to India in a CBU format. The car will be sold at MINI dealerships from June onwards and is priced at Rs. 43.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). What the M-series is to BMW and the AMG line-up is to Mercedes, the JCW is the same to MINI. The MINI JCW brings the raw go-kart feel to the roads with the racing genes that were passed onto the car by John Cooper, its inventor.
The MINI JCW is available in a variety of colours such as Chilli Red, Electric Blue, Emerald Grey, Melting Silver, Midnight Black, Pepper White, Solaris Orange, Starlight Blue, Thunder Grey, White Silver and an exclusive John Cooper Works Rebel Green. These colour options will surely put the customer in a huge dilemma. The MINI JCW is available with a dinamica leather combination of carbon black/carbon black. The leather upholstery can also be opted with different patterns like Leather Cross Punch Carbon Black, Leather Lounge Satellite Grey, Leather Chester Malt Brown, and MINI Yours Leather Lounge Carbon Black. All these variations in the upholstery choices come combined with Carbon Black scheme.
The front fascia of the MINI JCW is defined by the hexagonal radiator grille with a honeycomb pattern. It is further complemented by the horizontal cross member that is finished off in stunning red colour. The grille is encompassed between the traditional MINI round headlamps. They are LED headlamps and are also fitted with LED DRLs that double up as turn indicators. To make the MINI JCW look the part, the racing stripes are added to the bonnet that gives it a sporty feel. The John Cooper Works badge is fitted on the front, side and the tailgate, reminding you as to how special the car is.
The car is fitted with aerodynamically efficient air ducts, side sills, front and rear bumpers, rear spoiler and 17-inch JCW Track Spoke Light alloy wheels. The car just does not look race-inspired but does its part to justify the tag. The braking is handled by the 4-piston, fixed-calliper brakes that also look neat in the Chilli Red paint with the John Cooper Works badge. The car also sounds exorbitant, thanks to the chrome plated double exhaust tailpipes.
Coming to the interiors, the leather-wrapped steering wheel fitted with paddle shifters provide the driver with that extra sporty feel. Also, the steering wheel can automatically adjust its sensitivity. The pedal caps and the door sills feature the John Cooper Works badge making the interiors a special place to be in. The car is also offered with an additional MINI Excitement pack, that features an exterior MINI logo projection, LED interiors and ambient lighting with 12 colour options to select from.
The car does not lag in the technical aspect and comes with a head-up display, Harmon Kardon Hi-Fi audio system with 12 speakers and an 8-channel digital amplifier. The 6.5-inch infotainment system is well placed between the LED ring and comes with Bluetooth/audio connectivity. There is an optional MINI Wired package that includes an 8.8-inch touchscreen with touchpad control, MINI Find Mate with 2 Bluetooth tags, navigation system, MINI connected XL, wireless charging, Apple CarPlay with MINI radio visual boost.
The MINI JCW is fitted with a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, TwinPower Turbo engine that churns out a staggering 231 BHP and 320 Nm of torque. This engine does 0-100 km/hr in 6.1 seconds and comes mated to an 8-speed sports Steptronic automatic transmission. The car also comes with 3 driving modes like mid, sport and green modes. As you can assume, the sport mode sharpens the steering and acceleration, whereas the green mode does the opposite. The car comes with various driver assistance programs like park distant control and a rearview camera as standard. The car is loaded with safety features like a 3-point seat belt, front and passenger airbags, dynamic stability control, crash sensor, ABS, cornering brake control and run-flat tyres as standard. The car is also fitted with an auto start/stop function and active air cooling flaps.
