2019 Maruti Ertiga will most likely get a CNG variant within the next six months.
The new Ertiga was launched by Maruti in India yesterday. The prices for the different variants of the MPV initiated from Rs. 7.44 lakhs for the base LXi petrol variant and went up till Rs. 10.90 lakhs for the range topping ZXi+ diesel version.
The petrol variant of the new Ertiga has a newly introduced 1.5-litre petrol engine that produces 105 HP and 138 Nm. All variants are fitted with Maruti’s new SHVS technology. This technology was first introduced on the Ciaz facelift launched earlier this year.
The petrol variant also features a new dual-battery setup for managing duties between the idle start-stop system and torque assist functions. These new features have helped the petrol variant to achieve a good fuel economy of 19.34 km/l, compared to the 17.50 km/l of the previous model of the Ertiga. On the other hand, the Ertiga diesel model runs on the same 90 PS generating, 1.3-litre diesel engine from the previous generation model.
While rolling out the new Ertiga, it was noticed that the company had not mentioned about the CNG variant during the launch. This was strange considering that the CNG variant of the outgoing Ertiga had a good customer base amongst fleet and private buyers alike.
The Maruti Ertiga CNG variant is likely to be launched in the coming six months. The model is under the process of renovating the 1.5-litre motor with CNG fuel. It is expected that the dual-battery setup and the SHVS technology will also be incorporated with the CNG engine. But more details will only be known to us when the market introduction of the CNG variant is close at hand.
