2019 Maruti Baleno BS6 Launched, Gets DualJet Engine

Maruti has updated the Baleno K12B to meet BS6 norms, while the K12C DualJet engine has also been launched.

The K12C engine will be sold alongside the K12B engine for now

Maruti Suzuki has launched its Baleno hatchback with a BS6 compliant and a revised 1.2-litre DualJet Dual VVT engine alongside the existing K12B mill which has also been upgraded to meet BS6 norms. The powerplant also gets the manufacturer’s Smart Hybrid (SHVS) tech. The company says the new motor has helped them achieve a greater fuel efficiency number while reducing the emissions complying with the upcoming norms. The 2019 Maruti Baleno price starts from Rs. 5.58 lakhs and will be available across all Nexa dealerships.

The Smart Hybrid tech in the Baleno offers more than just efficiency. The lithium-ion battery has a compact design and a long life expectancy. It offers torque assistance when the vehicle is at a stop and just starts accelerating. It also has an idle start-stop function which silently stops-starts the engine for optimal efficiency. Moreover, it also features brake energy regeneration which charges the batteries. With the SHVS combined, the Baleno is now said to offer a fuel efficiency number of 23.87 km/l.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is also the first mass-market car in India to get a BS6 ready mill ahead of the upcoming emission regulations on April 2020. The manufacturer has upgraded the hardware and the software along with the exhaust system. The engine control software has also received updates for more precise fuel injection control and uses several onboard sensors to ensure cleaner and durable emission control.

The new engine with SHVS is available only on the Delta and Zeta variants, it produces 90 HP of power and 113 Nm of torque, an increase of 7 HP and 3 Nm over the K12B motor. Maruti also says the BS6 compliant vehicles will lead to a substantial reduction of nearly 25 per cent in Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions. The norms also enforce a stringent limit on non-methane Hydrocarbons (NMHC) emissions, while increasing the durability of the exhaust after-treatment system.
