This year’s Geneva Motor Show brought with it a lot of amazing cars, MotorBeam brings the top 5 supercars to you.
Pininfarina Battista
After teasing the car for quite some time with sketches and teaser images, Pininfarina finally unveiled their first car, the Battista. Named after the brand’s founder, Battista Pinin Farina, this electric supercar is one of the fastest road legal cars to come out of Italy. The Battista will be produced at Pininfarina Cambiano based factory, moreover, each of them will be hand-crafted.
The Battista looks futuristic, to say the least. The front is home to aggressive headlights that merge through a light bar that spreads across the width of the car. Being an Italian car, there’s plenty of character lines to be seen on the sides. As the line progress towards the rear of the car, the design is completed with the help of the floating rear wing. This wing pops out at higher speeds to increase downforce while also acting as an air-brake. It gets 21-inch wheels with Pirelli P-Zero rubbers to give it that extra grip. Moreover, braking duties are taken care of by carbon-ceramic 6-piston brakes which also aids in energy recovery.
The electric supercar is powered by the Croatian brand, Rimac’s T-shaped battery pack. This setup has been placed between the driver and passenger seats to ensure top levels of handling. The car produces an astounding 1900 PS of power and 2300 Nm of torque. This allows the car to catapult from 0-100 km/hr in under 2 seconds while 0-300 km/hr run takes just 12 seconds. The top speed is 350 km/hr. The range of the car is 450 kms, thanks to the 120 kWh Li-Ion battery pack.
Only 150 units of the Battista will ever be produced. Deliveries are slated to begin in 2020. Pininfarina hasn’t revealed the price tag for the Battista as of now. However, it is expected to be priced over $2.5 Million (Rs. 17.15 crores).
Bugatti La Voiture Noire
Just when we thought Bugatti couldn’t possibly produce costlier cars, they showcased the Bugatti La Voiture Noire. La Voiture Noire stands for ‘The Black Car’ in French. This supercar is based on the Chiron and is a one-off production car. The La Voiture Noire also marks Bugatti’s 100th anniversary while simultaneously paying tribute to the brand’s most iconic car, the Type 57 SC Atlantis.
There’s some similarity to other Bugatti cars in the way this car has been designed. However, each and every component has been handcrafted in order to maintain the bespoke nature of the La Voiture Noire. Even the deep black gloss paint has been specially crafted for the car. The car does strike a resemblance to the Type 57 SC Atlantis, especially when viewed from the top.
It features vertically stacked headlights, a first for Bugatti cars while the rear gets six horizontally stacked exhausts for that extra bit of drama. The body is made completely out of carbon fibre. The black present on the car is only interrupted by the supply of high-grade chrome elements. Bugatti went that mile to provide stunning dual-tone alloy wheels that provide a turbine effect when looked at. Overall, the car looks drop-dead gorgeous despite Bugatti refusing to reveal the interior at all.
While Bugatti didn’t reveal information on the La Voiture Noire’s performance figures, it’s safe to assume it’ll be similar to that of the Chiron, if not better. However, the specifications revealed mirror that of the Chiron. The Bugatti La Voiture Noire costs an eye-watering 16.7 million Euros (Rs. 130 crores) and is available for only one lucky (and super-rich) customer.
Koenigsegg Jesko
Koenigsegg revealed the successor to the Agera at Geneva Motor Show, the Jesko. Named after Christian von Koenigsegg, the founder’s father, Jesko von Koenigsegg, this hypercar might just be the new fastest road-legal car. The Jesko is modestly larger to its predecessor, the Agera but is surely faster than it.
It is powered by a heavily reworked version of Koenigsegg’s own V8 petrol engine with a forged crankshaft and twin-turbochargers. It also gets an all-new air-injection system to cut down on lag. The setup helps develop 1600 HP of peak power while torque peaks at 2177 Nm. While Koenigsegg didn’t reveal acceleration figures, it is safe to assume that the Jesko will be faster than the Agera to the 100 km/hr mark. The top speed revealed by the brand is at a staggering 483 km/hr.
The design of the Jesko has some familiarity to the Koenigsegg family, especially with the wraparound windscreen. The front looks very aggressive with sharp headlights and the carbon fibre skirt just further helps the cause. The side looks just as good especially with the five-spoke alloy wheels while the rear looks equally mesmerising. The rear features a unique set of taillights and a centrally placed exhaust that makes the Jesko very attractive. The interior of the Jesko gets all modern features and a lot of Alcantara leather with carbon fibre elements as well.
Koenigsegg will manufacture only 125 units of the Jesko, however, the brand claims to have already received deposits for 83 of them. Koenigsegg will start production for the Jesko in 2020 with deliveries slated to begin some time later. The Koenigsegg Jesko costs approximately $3 million (Rs. 21 crores) without taxes.
Ferrari F8 Tributo
Ferrari revealed the F8 Tributo at Geneva, successor to one of its most loved cars, the 488. The F8 Tributo is essentially a tribute to the brand’s iconic turbo V8 engine. This engine won the ‘Engine of the Year’ award consecutively for three years in 2016, 2017 and 2018. It also went on to be named as the ‘Best Engine of the last Two Decades’ when it was seen in the Pista.
The F8 Tributo is powered by the iconic twin-turbo 3.9-litre V8 engine that develops 720 HP of power and 770 Nm of peak torque. Ferrari says that the F8 Tributo weighs 40 kgs less than its predecessor. This helps it to be about 0.1 seconds faster than the 488 in the 0-100 km/hr run at 2.9 seconds. 0-200 km/hr comes up in just 7.8 seconds while the top speed is an impressive 340 km/hr.
Ferrari also claims to have improved the aerodynamics by about 10 percent when compared to the 488. The Pista’s S-Duct alone helps in improving 15 percent of the aerodynamics. It also gets fatter brake cooling ducts, thanks to the slimmer headlights. The Tributo gets the latest version of Side Slip Control and a new version of the Dynamic Enhancer technology. The F8 Tributo also features improved interior, with an upgraded infotainment system over the 488 and some tweaked ergonomics.
Ferrari hasn’t revealed the pricing for the F8 Tributo as of now. However, the 488 GTB starts at around Rs. 3.67 crores (ex-showroom, India) with an extensive and expensive options list that can push it to Rs. 4 crores. Hence, expect the F8 Tributo to be priced higher than the 488 GTB.
Aston Martin Valkyrie
Aston Martin revealed their new hypercar, the Valkyrie at Geneva Motor Show. The car has been developed under a partnership with Redbull Racing and Cosworth. The hypercar features a hybrid setup with a power pack sourced from Rimac. Even though the Valkyrie is a prototype, Aston Martin says that the production model will be quite similar to the one showcased.
The Aston Martin Valkyrie has been designed in a very aggressive manner. The car is designed to be as aerodynamically efficient as possible. It gets prominent front splitter and side skirts to help the cause. Moreover, it gets a two-part active rear wing that generates a large amount of downforce. The front of the car gets oval-shaped headlights that provide a lot of character to the car’s design while the rear sharp taillights.
The hypercar is powered by a 6.5-litre V12 developed by Cosworth that produces 1000 HP of peak power and 740 Nm of peak torque. This is coincidentally the world’s most powerful non-turbocharged production engine. The battery-electric system from Rimac adds an additional 160 HP and 280 Nm of torque. This brings the total output to a staggering 1160 HP and 900 Nm of torque. It also features a KERS system seen in F1 cars. However, Aston Martin hasn’t revealed the power specifications as of now.
A track-only AMR Pro version of the Valkyrie will deliver Formula One-style performance, however, customers can add racing components to the road version with Aston Martin’s Track Performance Pack. Only 150 units of the Valkyrie will be produced, while the AMR Pro version will be limited to just 25 units. The Valkyrie is expected to priced north of $3.2 million (Rs. 22 crores) when launched.
