The 2019 BMW Z4 is everything that a roadster should look and perform like.
BMW has revealed the latest iteration of the Z4 that had been discontinued after 2016 because of its increasing weight. It was also no more a fun-to-drive car which is exactly what it was meant to be in the first place. The 2019 BMW Z4 is set to change that with its sharper than ever looks and better driving dynamics.
The 2019 BMW Z4 has the trademark BMW kidney grille at the front and of course the badging. The rear looks sleek too with a moulded boot lid and those sharp taillights that broaden as they flow outwards. The rear bumper is shaped with scoops in it for better air flow and there are dual chrome tipped exhausts sitting below.
The interiors of the 2019 BMW Z4 have been designed for only two people with no occupancy for a third person or even a child. The Live Cockpit Professional system, as BMW likes to call it consists of a digital gauge cluster. A touchscreen infotainment system sits in the centre-console and the interiors are all-black. Use of silver accent makes the overall interiors look sporty. There is a new joystick shifter for the iDrive. Being a convertible, the screens risk getting washed out under direct sunlight but BMW says they have taken this factor into account. It rides on 19-inch wheels.
The 2019 BMW Z4 will be available in two trims, 30i and M40i. Full details about the engines have not yet been revealed but they have been confirmed to be 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder and 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder motors, both of which are turbocharged. The 2.0-litre motor will produce about 260 HP while the bigger 3.0-litre motor will churn out a more Z4 suitable, 380 HP and a peak torque of 501.6 Nm. Manual transmissions won’t be on offer and an 8-speed ZF transmission will change the cogs on the 2019 Z4.
The 3.0-litre motor will be performing duty only in the M40i variant and will send the roadster from 0-100 km/hr in less than four seconds. The M40i trim will also have better components to handle all that power. These include M-Sport brakes, M-tuned sport suspension with adaptive dampers, M-Sport rear differential and a 50:50 weight distribution.
Prices of the 2019 BMW Z4 haven’t been revealed either but they are expected to start at about 50,000 U.S. dollars. The car will go on sale in the U.S. next spring and the top-spec M40i variant will be introduced later in the same year. The prices have been made possible because the 2019 Z4 shares its platform and powertrain with the Toyota Supra.
