The 2019 BMW 3-Series is offered with two engine options – the 320d and 330i.
The 7th generation BMW 3-Series has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 41.40 lakhs (ex-showroom) and goes up till Rs. 47.90 lakhs (ex-showroom). The luxury sedan is offered in India with a choice of 2 engines- the 330i and the 320d as well as 3 variants – Sport, Luxury Line and M Sport. While the diesel engine is offered in the former trims, the top of the line M Sport gets a petrol powertrain.
The 2019 BMW 3-Series is based on the CLAR platform and shares its underpinnings with its elder siblings, the 5-Series and the flagship 7-Series. In terms of dimensions, the new BMW 3-Series is 76 mm longer at 4,709 mm, 16 mm wider at 1,827 mm, and 1 mm taller at 1,442 mm than its predecessor. Even the wheelbase is up 41 mm from before. Though BMW sells the xDrive all-wheel-drive version abroad, India only gets a rear-wheel-drive version of the sedan.
One look and it is certain that the 2019 BMW 3-Series takes design cues from the new 8-Series. Large kidney grilles, LED headlamps with L-shaped daytime running lights are all borrowed from the sibling. At the rear, the luxury sedan gets new wraparound taillights similar to the new 5-Series. While the BMW 320d runs on 17-inch alloy wheels, the 330i does duty with a set of 18-inch alloy wheels.
In terms of equipment, the 320d Sport gets an 8.8-inch infotainment screen, while the 320d Luxury Line and 330i M Sport get a bigger 10.25-inch unit that supports BMW’s iDrive system. It gets the rotary dial, touchpad, voice commands and gesture control. LED headlights and tail-lights, 3-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting and an electric sunroof are offered in the top-spec trims.
The BMW 330i derives power from a 1998cc 4-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 255 PS of power at 5000 RPM and a peak torque of 400 Nm between 1550 – 4400 RPM. Meanwhile, the BMW 320d is powered by 1995cc 4-cylinder diesel engine that is tuned to churn out 188 PS at 4000 RPM and a peak torque of 400 Nm between 1750 – 2500 RPM. Both mills are coupled with an 8-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.
The 2019 BMW 3-Series rivals the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Jaguar XE and the upcoming Volvo S60 in India.
