BMW dealers start taking pre-bookings for the new and sharper-looking 3-Series.
The seventh generation BMW 3-Series was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show recently. And now, the good news is that the car will hit Indian roads in mid-2019 with dealerships across the country having started taking pre-bookings too.
Aesthetically, the latest generation BMW 3-Series (codenamed G20) looks much more aggressive than the car it replaces. The angular approach does appear to be amazing, albeit subjective for many. The front fascia looks very sculpted and so does the rear-end.
Step inside and you will be greeted by a very urban setting. The dashboard now has two screens stacked up. Yes, there is an all-digital driver’s display behind the steering and a touchscreen infotainment system above the centre console.
Mechanically, BMW will continue to offer the 3-Series with both diesel and petrol powertrains in the form of the 320d and 320i. The currently sold 3-Series diesel in India is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor that churns out a maximum of 190 HP at 4000 RPM and 400 Nm of torque between 1750-2750 RPM.
On the other hand, the 320i petrol also has a similar setup of the engine and can produce 252 HP at 5200 RPM along with a peak torque of 350 Nm between 1450-4800 RPM. BMW will also bring the 330i to India but not at the time of launch. The German automaker believes the G20 is the best 3-Series ever although BMW purists still believe that honour rests with the long gone fourth generation E46.
This new BMW 3-Series is expected to get a price tag starting at around Rs. 40 lakhs. It would be competing against similar cars in the segment, like the Mercedes C-Class and the popular Audi A4 while also rivalling the Jaguar XE and Volvo S60 whose next generation is expected to go on sale in our country around the same timeframe as the new 3’s launch.
