The 2018 Yamaha YZF-R1 has been launched in India, priced at Rs. 20.73 lakhs.
Post the launch of the 2018 MT-09, Yamaha has launched the 2018 YZF-R1 in India at a sticker price of Rs. 20.73 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new R1 is available in two colours – Yamaha Blue and Tech Black and will be imported to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
The R1’s front cowl has an unmistakeable YZR-M1 (Yamaha’s MotoGP bike) type race bike silhouette. You get LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs, LED turn indicators and LED tail-light. The motorcycle uses a Delta-box frame which features a long upward-truss type swingarm and magnesium rear frame.
The 2018 Yamaha R1 is powered by a 998cc four-cylinder, liquid-cooled motor that produces 200 PS of power at 13,500 RPM and 112.4 Nm of torque at 11,500 RPM. The powertrain is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with new Quick Shift System (QSS). Derived from the YZR-M1 cross plane technology, its cross plane crankshaft gives an uneven 270-180-90-180-degrees firing sequence for higher levels of linear torque with superior traction. The motorcycle comes equipped with titanium con rods and forged aluminium pistons for an instantaneous response from the motor with high power and strong linear torque.
For optimal intake efficiency, the R1 also features a YZR-M1 type central air inlet which feeds a large capacity 10.5-litres air box. Fresh air is forced into the electronically activated Yamaha Chip Controlled Intake (YCC-I) funnels that adjust their length to match the engine RPM for flawless power characteristics and to offer high levels of usable performance. A servomotor controlled exhaust valve adjusts gas flow for enhanced response and stronger engine output while the compact midship muffler contributes towards mass centralisation and emanates a unique grunt or growl.
The motorcycle uses inverted forks up front and a monoshock (link suspension) at the rear. Braking is via 320 mm dual discs at the front and 220 mm single disc at the rear with ABS as standard. Shod with 17-inch wheels, the vehicle uses a 120-section tyre up front and a 190-section at the rear. Fuel-tank capacity is rated at 17-litres while it tips the scales at 200 kgs (wet weight).
