2018 Yamaha R3 ABS has been launched in India; comes with Metzeler tyres and dual-channel ABS.
Entering India in August 2015, the Yamaha R3 enjoyed a short stint in the market till March 2017 post which BS4 emission norms came into effect. Previously, the Japanese manufacturer has hinted at reviving the model after incorporating changes required for BS4-compliance. The 2018 Yamaha R3 has finally been launched in the presence of popular celebrity and motoring enthusiast John Abraham. Priced at Rs. 3.48 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), the R3 now comes with dual-channel ABS as standard.
There are no visual alterations to the 2018 R3 and the faired sportbike continues to wear sharp but neutral-looking clothes. The two colour options on offer are Racing Blue and Magma Black. All the features of the previous model are retained without any change. Powering the 2018 R3 is a familiar 321cc parallel-twin motor which develops 41.4 HP of power and 29.6 Nm of torque. Mated to a 6-speed gearbox, the engine is now BS4-compliant.
Suspension setup comprises of telescopic forks up front and preload-adjustable mono shock at the rear while braking is performed with the help of 298 mm and 240 mm discs at the front & rear respectively. Yamaha has surprised us with the addition of dual-channel ABS and Metzeler radial tyres to the package. This brings the popular motorcycle closer in equipment to the competition, which includes the KTM RC 390 and TVS Apache RR 310 primarily.
