The 2018 Yamaha MT-09 gets an aggressive and sharper looking front end

Yamaha has launched the 2018 MT-09 in India at a price tag of Rs. 10.88 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company likes to call the motorcycle as ‘multi-performance neo-roadster’. Interestingly, the price of the new MT-09 is lower than that of the previous model. The motorcycle will be available at selected dealerships across the country.

The 2018 Yamaha MT-09 borrows its design cues from the bigger MT-10 and looks sharp and aggressive. The twin-eye headlamp setup with the LED strips running below makes the MT-09 look super angry. The headlamps are LED units. There are unique touches like the 3D LED tail-light, swingarm mounted rear fender and almost horizontally placed rear suspension.

The motorcycle is powered by a new 847cc, three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 115 PS of power at 10,000 RPM and 87.5 Nm of torque at 8500 RPM. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox with Assist and Slipper Clutch and QSS (Quick Shift System). The vehicle uses telescopic forks up front and link-type monoshock at the rear. Dual 298 mm discs at the front and 245 mm disc at the rear take care of the braking duties. Fuel tank capacity is rated at 14-litres and the motorcycle tips the scales at 193 kgs (wet).

The 2018 Yamaha MT-09 is available in a choice of three colours – Bluish Grey, Deep Purplish Blue and Matte Dark Grey. The motorcycle will be imported to India asa CBU (Completely Built Unit) and rivals the Kawasaki Z900, Triumph Street Triple RS and the MV Agusta Brutale 800.
