The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander has grown bigger into a 7-seater compared to the 5-seater it was earlier.
Mitsubishi has kind of been off the grid in the Indian market with only its Pajero model on sale which too hasn’t been able to stand its ground with competition from the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. To try its luck once again here, the company has launched the new Outlander SUV at a price of Rs. 31.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It now comes with an extended feature list for creature comfort.
On the exteriors, the 2018 Outlander is flanked by Mitsubishi’s new Dynamic Shield design and it does make the Outlander look dynamic indeed. At the front, the SUV uses abundant chrome and gets LED headlights and DRLs. The rear too gets LED tail-lights and has a dual-tone bumper. The SUV rides on 16-inch alloy wheels which look a tad bit small compared to its size.
The interiors of the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander too receive an update with a new 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, new instrument console and a new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The dashboard is finished in all-black with piano black finishes in the centre console. The feature list includes an electric sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlamp, leather upholstery, 710W Rockford Fosgate sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, electric parking brake with auto hold function and push-button start.
Safety of the passengers too is well taken care of with 7-airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD). The new Outlander also has Active Stability Control (ASC), hill start assist and immobilizer for improved vehicle security.
The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander is available with only a single engine option which is a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder petrol motor that produces 164.9 HP at 6000 RPM and 222 Nm of peak torque at 4100 RPM. It is mated to a CVT automatic transmission with Multi Select 4×4 system and the company claims a 0-100 km/hr time of 11.1 seconds. Paddle shifters too are provided for the enthusiasts.
The past few years have been pretty dull for Mitsubishi who are still remembered for their Lancer model. The new Mitsubishi Outlander looks like a good product and should be able to sell enough in the Indian market, especially with its bigger size and longer feature list. It competes with the Skoda Kodiaq and the Honda CR-V.
