The recall has been issued to check for a possible fault in the Airbag Controller Unit.
Shortly after Honda recalled its 2018 Amaze model for an issue with the EPS sensor harness, Maruti Suzuki has now issued a recall for its new Swift and Dzire models. The company wants to inspect the cars for a possible fault in the airbag controller unit.
In all, 1279 units of the two models have been affected. Specifically, 566 units of the new Swift and 713 units of the new Dzire have been recalled. The affected cars are said to be manufactured from 7th May 2018 to 5th July 2018.
Maruti Suzuki will individually contact each and every customer whose car needs to be inspected. But if you don’t want to wait for the company to contact you, then you can simply log on to Maruti Suzuki’s website and fill out your chassis number (for new Swift – MBH and for new Dzire – MA3 followed by a 14 digit alpha-numeric number) to ascertain if your vehicle is part of the recall. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also on the vehicle invoice / registration documents. You can also contact your respective Maruti dealer to verify if your vehicle is part of the recall. Like is the industry norm, the inspection and fixing of the fault will happen free of cost.
This happens to be the second recall for the new Maruti Suzuki Swift. It was recalled earlier in May 2018 for a possible defect in the brake vaccum hose of the car. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno too was part of this recall that consisted of 52,686 cars.
While the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire was launched in India last year, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift was introduced in February this year. Both the cars have been serious volumes spinners for the company. The Dzire is also the best-selling sub 4-metre sedan on sale in India.
