2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport has been launched in India and comes with better connectivity options.
British automaker Land Rover has been active in updating its portfolio of luxury cars to gain traction in India. Launched in 2014 as a successor to the Freelander, the Discovery Sport is currently the most affordable SUV in the brand’s lineup. With less than a month to go for the new year, Land Rover has launched the 2018 Land Rover Discovery Sport well in advance. Prices for the 2018 Discovery Sport start at Rs. 41.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The new model boasts of improved connectivity aids including InControl Pro Services and Wi-Fi hotspot.
The InControl Pro Services works alongside the existing InControl Apps feature which includes voice recognition, 3D maps, Touch Pro and several driver assistance features. Output from the infotainment unit is delivered through a Meridian surround speaker system. The InControl Pro Services brings added convenience to the package as it includes a route planner app, commute mode and sharing ETA functionality. The route planner app allows the user to sync routes from an Android or iOS device to the car’s navigation system.
The commute mode is more advanced and comes with the ability to learn a route regularly taken by the driver. In case of a blockage or congestion in the regular route, the system displays an alternate route to prevent delay and inconvenience. Sharing ETA functionality allows the driver to share SMS updates about the expected time of arrival (ETA) with select contacts. Wi-Fi hotspot feature provides 4G internet access to upto 8 devices through a dedicated SIM card provided by the customer.
Save for this minor technical update, the 2018 Discovery Sport remains identical to the outgoing model. It is powered by a 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine which is available in two states of tune: standard 147 BHP of power along with 382 Nm of torque and a more powerful 177 BHP of power with 430 Nm of torque. The Discovery Sport features four wheel drive system, lightweight suspension and Terrain Response along with two 8-inch screens for the rear seat passengers. The car is available in four trim levels – Pure, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury.
