The 2018 Honda Goldwing has been showcased at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, will be launched in February 2018.
Honda has taken the wraps off its flagship offering, the Goldwing at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show. The 2018 Goldwing comes in two variants – Goldwing and Goldwing Tour. The images here are of the Goldwing.
The flagship bike features a slew of improvements over its predecessor. Honda claims the new Goldwing is lighter and more involving to ride. Visually, though the 2018 Goldwing gets sleeker and sharper design cues, the bike does look massive. The fairing design aids in better aerodynamics and Honda claims an improvement of 11.8 percent in aerodynamic efficiency. The headlamps are full LED units, there is an electrically adjustable windscreen and a 7-inch full-colour TFT instrument console with analogue dials.
The tourer draws power from a 1800cc, horizontally-opposed, 6-cylinder engine. Power and torque figures haven’t been revealed yet. However, the engine comes paired to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 1800cc engine with the DCT also features forward/reverse Walking Mode (which makes this mammoth manoeuvrable while parking).
The Honda Goldwing uses a double wishbone and Pro-Link Showa monoshock for the front and rear suspension respectively. The double wishbone suspension at the front reduces shock transmission to the handlebar by up to 30 percent and a 40 percent reduction in the inertial mass at the front end. Braking duties are taken care by dual 320 mm discs at the front and a single 316 mm rear disc. ABS is offered as standard.
Other features include ride-by-wire throttle with 4 riding modes (Tour, Sport, Economy and Rain), Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Cruise Control, Hill Start Assist and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. Prices for the 2018 Honda Goldwing start from US dollars 23,500 (approximately Rs. 16 lakhs) and US dollars 26,700 for the Goldwing Tour (approximately Rs. 17.62 lakhs).
