Hero has for some reason decided to bring back the Karizma ZMR back on sale in India, without any changes.
The Hero Karizma led the quarter-litre bike segment for a considerable number of years. The original Karizma R changed the game in the entry-level sports bike segment. It had good handling, looked sporty and performed well. The ZMR model replaced it and was updated twice. Now, Hero has suddenly decided to start selling the Karizma ZMR again in India.
The 2018 Hero Karizma ZMR can be found listed on the company’s official website and it seems that Hero is relaunching the bike without any changes whatsoever. This obviously doesn’t help its case. With the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar 220F, NS 200 and RS 200, KTM Duke 200, Yamaha FZ25 and the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V competing with it, Hero might just have to pull it back just like it did last year owing to poor sales.
The design of the bike just doesn’t look to be ready for 2018. The over-exaggerated fairing and skinny tyres are not to everyone’s liking. The handlebar too is a little pushed back and upright.
The 2018 Hero Karizma ZMR will continue to be powered by the same 223cc, air-cooled engine with a fuel injector. It outputs a maximum of 20 HP at 8000 RPM and 19.7 Nm at 6500 RPM. Again, not segment leading but will do the job. Hero should have at least increased the power output of the engine. There’s no ABS either.
An all-new Hero Karizma ZMR is said to be launching in the year 2020 but there’s still no concrete specification or design details about it.
While the 2018 Hero Karizma ZMR has still not begun arriving at the showrooms, the website gives its prices as Rs. 1.08 lakhs for the single-tone variant while the dual-tone variant costs Rs. 1.10 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom, Mumbai). While we don’t really consider it logical to buy this bike, Hero seems to be too optimistic and wishful about this.
