2018 Harley-Davidson Softail Lineup Unveiled

Harley-Davidson has revealed its 2018 Softail lineup, that comprises of eight models which get vast improvements.

The 2018 Softail frame is lighter and stronger at the same time

The recently unveiled 2018 Harley-Davidson Softail lineup includes eight updated models spread into three categories. The new lineup replaces the Dyna platform which provided handling prowess to Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The new Softail platform offers old-school aesthetics and carries forward handling characteristics from the Dyna frame.

Powering the motorcycles is a 45-degree Milwaukee-Eight Big-Twin engine, mated to a 6-speed gearbox and available in two versions. One is the 107, a 1753cc V-Twin putting out 147 Nm of torque, while the other one is the 114, a 1868cc V-Twin which generates 161 Nm of torque. The 107 engine powers the entire lineup, while the Heritage Classic, Fat Boy, Fat Bob and Breakout buyers have an option to opt for the more powerful 114 engine.

Harley-Davidson has also updated the suspension setup in the new lineup to improve ride quality. An improved setup from Showa does duty at the front, while the rear monoshock is hidden from view and offers easy pre-load adjustment. Dual counter-balancers are in place to negate engine vibrations. The 34% lighter frame contributes to quicker performance and better handling.

From the 2018 range, the Heritage Classic, Deluxe and Slim make their way to Foundational Standards category. The Low Rider, Breakout and Street Bob sit in the Modern Classics group, while the Revolutionary Design category houses the Fat Boy and Fat Bob. Harley-Davidson has completely revamped its lineup and the new products are expected to be introduced in the Indian market later this year. The motorcycles will contunue to be locally assembled via the CKD route.
