The 2018 BMW X3 has been unveiled officially, gets a whole lot of changes to the exteriors and interiors.
BMW has officially unveiled the next generation X3 SUV from the X family of cars. Currently in its third generation avatar, the X3 is striking in design, is more fuel-efficient, more comfortable and more luxurious than its predecessor.
The BMW X3 is based on the CLAR (Cluster Architecture) platform and is nearly 50-100 kgs lighter than the outgoing model. Talking about the changes, up front the kidney grille (with Active Air Flap Control) has grown in size making the front look more daunting. The headlamps are more sleeker LED units with LED DRLs. The bumper houses the LED fog lamps.
At the side, there aren’t much changes except for the larger front doors and the air vents that either sides of the front fenders feature, aiding in better aerodynamics of the car. At the rear however, the LED tail lamps with an optional 3D look are all-new. The bumper too has been tweaked.
Get inside the BMW X3, you will notice that BMW has changed the entire layout of the interiors. BMWs are known to be driver-oriented cars and the centre console is tilted towards the driver. The interiors feature a new steering wheel and a 10.2-inch BMW Connected Drive touchscreen infotainment system with Gesture Control. The centre console now houses a larger storage area.
BMW is also offering a full colour Head-Up Display, Ambient Air Package, Ambient Lighting, 3-Zone Automatic Climate Control, Display Key and Active Seat Ventilation as optional. Overall, the cabin is a huge step up from its predecessor.
Now coming to the engines, the BMW X3 is offered in a choice of 2 diesel engines and 3 petrol engines. A M40i M Performance 3.0-litre petrol engine that produces 360 HP and 500 Nm of torque, a xDrive 30i variant that produces 252 HP and 20i variant (will launch later) that produces 184 HP. Diesel engines include a 2.0-litre and a 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo diesel engines that produce 190 HP, 400 Nm of torque and 265 HP, 620 Nm of torque respectively. All these engine options come paired to an 8-speed Steptronic transmission.
The Driver Assistant Plus safety package comes with the Steering and Lane Control Assistance, Lane Change Assistance, Lane Keeping Assistance with Side Collision Protection.
