The 2018 Audi Q5 has been launched in India with a starting price of Rs. 53.25 lakhs.
Making its debut long back in 2009, the Audi Q5 has been among the most desirable luxury cars around the world. Starting the year on a high note, the German automaker has rolled out the second-generation Q5 in India that is offered in two trim levels. The 2018 Audi Q5 price starts at Rs. 53.25 lakhs for the Premium Plus variant and goes up to Rs. 57.6 lakhs for the Technology variant (both prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
Measuring at 4663 mm x 1893 mm x 1659 mm (length x width x height), the second-gen Q5 is a size larger than the outgoing model and features the lightest body in its class. Dominating the front fascia is a single frame grill flanked by LED headlamps on either side. The air intakes are now larger and the overall silhouette is reminiscent of the more expensive Audi Q7. The 2018 Audi Q5 also comes with 18-inch alloy wheels and panoramic sunroof.
The new Q5 gets an elegant horizontally-oriented cabin with an 8-inch MMI touchscreen display with navigation and Audi Connect. Seats are draped in a mix of leather and art leather upholstery. The SUV also comes with Audi Virtual Cockpit, MMI control with touchpad, electrically adjustable front seats, electro-mechanical parking brake and electric boot lid. Features such as hill descent assist, rear view camera, cruise control and 3-Zone Deluxe Automatic AC are also available.
Powering the 2018 Q5 is a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine which develops 187 HP of power and 400 Nm of torque. Mated to a 7-speed S-Tronic automatic transmission, the car breaches the 100 km/hr mark in 7.9 seconds to reach a rated top speed of 218 km/hr. Power is transmitted to all four wheels through quattro drivetrain which gets wheel-selective torque control as well. Audi promises to have improved the drive experience with the help of a revised power steering, adaptive suspension and Audi Drive Select system.
Despite being bigger and more feature-laden, the luxury SUV is decidedly more frugal than its outgoing version and delivers a claimed efficiency of 17.01 km/l. It comes loaded on the safety front with 8 airbags, ABS, EBD, front and rear parking sensors and ESC. With the new Q5, Audi aims to target the Mercedes-Benz GLC, BMW X3 and the recently-launched Lexus NX 300h. The car will be assembled at Volkswagen’s facility located in Aurangabad.
