Yamaha plans to update both the R25 and R3 next year which will be the first update to these motorcycles.
The 200-400cc segment is the hottest right now and new models are being launched in this segment, from the updated KTM Duke 200 and Duke 390 to the Honda CBR250RR and Suzuki GSX-250R, rivalry in this segment is as intense as ever. To ensure Yamaha’s offerings in the quarter-litre space remain on top, Yamaha plans to update the R25 and R3 next year.
Since the R25 and R3 are almost the same motorcycle, other than their engines, the changes will be applied to both. The 2017 Yamaha R3 will get upside down front forks which will give it improved handling on the track. The headlights will be updated with LEDs, giving it excellent illumination at night while also adding aesthetic value.
The Yamaha R3 hasn’t been selling well in India with just 60 units sold last month. Its chief rival, the Kawasaki Ninja 300 sold 64 units in October 2016 which is far from the fantastic numbers the segment king, the KTM RC 390 manage due to an aggressive price tag, courtesy of local manufacturing.
