Volkswagen is going to increase its product portfolio by launching the Passat and Tiguan in India.
Volkswagen India currently fetches most of its sales from the Polo, Ameo and Vento. The Ameo was launched in 2016 as a Made-For-India and Made-In-India vehicle. It is slotted in the compact sedan segment. Accompanying these models are the Jetta, Beetle and GTi. The Jetta is on its way out, but Volkswagen has announced that they will be launching the new Tiguan and Passat in India in 2017.
Volkswagen Tiguan
The Tiguan will be positioned as a premium SUV and it will come with a lot of bells and whistles. The SUV was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and it will rival other premium compact SUVs like the Hyundai Tucson, BMW X1, Mercedes GLA and Audi Q3. However, we can expect Volkswagen to price it slightly lower than the 3 Germans.
The Tiguan is based on the MQB platform and knowing Volkswagen cars, this one will also be involving to drive. The vehicle will be offered with a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that will be mated to the 7-speed DSG transmission. Apart from that, the SUV will also offer very good functionality and practicality.
Volkswagen Passat
The Passat was discontinued in India a couple of years back but now that the luxury sedan segment is gaining popularity, the automaker is all set to launch the new generation. The new Passat will compete with the likes of the Skoda Superb and Toyota Camry, along with the entry level sedans from Audi, Mercedes and BMW.
The sedan will also be offered with the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine, with the 6-speed DSG transmission. The Passat is also based on the MQB platform and gets a host of features and tech. Moreover, the sedan gets as many as 9 airbags.
