Specifications of the India-bound 2017 Skoda Octavia RS have been revealed officially.
Towards the end of 2016, Skoda unveiled the performance-oriented 2017 Skoda Octavia RS to the world. While the specifications have been officially revealed, Skoda also confirmed that the Octavia RS will be launched in the third quarter of this year. Dealers have already started accepting pre-bookings for the car unofficially.
Speaking of the performance numbers first, the Octvia RS comes with an option of 2.0-litre TSI and TDI engines with a choice of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed DSG transmission. The turbocharged petrol motor puts out 230 HP of power and 350 Nm of torque, while the power and torque figures for the TDI mill are rated at 184 HP and 380 Nm respectively. The oil-burner version in DSG guise also gets an optional 4×4 drive system. With a top speed of 250 km/hr (247 km/hr for the diesel), the Octavia RS breaches the 100 km/hr mark in 6.7 seconds (6.8 seconds for the diesel).
Measuring 4689 x 1814 x 1448 mm (length x width x height) in exterior dimensions with a wheelbase of 2680 mm, the Octavia RS is identical to the regular Octavia in size but gets subtle design changes to differentiate it from the latter. These include LED headlights, LED foglamps and revised bumpers. Split headlamps are equipped with Adaptive Front Lighting System, while the RS badging looks distinctive. Anthracite-coloured 18-inch Gemini wheels, coupled with the Sports suspension, help fill the wheel arches better and improve handling. Black diffuser and spoiler at the rear, along with LED tail-lamps, add to the sporty character.
Multi-function steering wheel, ambient lighting and Sports seats adorn the all-black cabin of the 2017 Skoda Octavia RS. While an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with 8-speaker system is standard, Alcantara leather is available as an option in place of Alcanta-fabric trim. Drive selector offers Sport, Normal and Comfort modes and safety features on offer include 6 airbags, ESP, Dynamic Chassis Control and traction control.
Skoda has also provided a removable LED lamp in the boot and an umbrella under the passenger seat. Skoda claims that the RS version accounts for 13% of Octavia sales. Once launched, it will open up a world of opportunities for performance enthusiasts since it offers a lot in stock form itself.
