The 2017 Skoda Octavia has been launched in India, priced from Rs. 15.50 lakhs.
Skoda has launched the facelifted 2017 Octavia in India and it is priced from Rs. 15.50-22.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). As changes to every facelift go, Skoda has managed to give the front a new and fresh look while the side, rear and the interiors do with very subtle changes.
The 2017 Skoda Octavia facelift gets a new front end that is adorned by the split projector LED headlamps with LED DRLs. The headlamps are smoked units and there is the signature butterfly grille with chrome surrounds. The bumper too sees tweaks and gets a large air intake and LED foglamps under which a wide chrome strip runs along the width of the car.
The side and rear of the Octavia remain largely unchanged save for the redesigned bumper, tweaked boot lid and the new alloy wheels. The LED tail lights have been slightly tweaked too. Get inside the car and the overall design remains largely the same. Interiors house the same beige-black dual tone dashboard.
The instrument cluster sees newly designed dials and the new 9.2-inch Columbus infotainment system features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The new infotainment system is very good to use while the MID now gets a colour display. The steering wheel and the AC controls get chrome accents on them.
Some other features on the Octavia include sunroof, 12-way electrically adjustable driver seat with memory function, hands-free parking system, TPMS, 8 airbags with ABS, EBD, Traction Control, Hill Hold, ESP, driver fatigue detection system.
On the mechanical front, Skoda has not done any changes. The petrol engines are the same 1.4-litre TSI and 1.8-litre TSI units. While the 1.4-litre TSI engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission, the 1.8-litre TSI comes paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. The 1.4 engine produces 150 PS and 250 Nm while the 1.8 engine churns out 180 PS and 250 Nm. The 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine that produces 143 PS and 320 Nm of torque is also on offer. The diesel engine gets either a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox.
The ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency on the 1.4-litre petrol engine is 16.7 km/l while for the 1.8-litre mill it is 15.1 km/l. The diesel engine has a fuel efficiency of 21 km/l for the manual variant and 19.5 km/l for the automatic variant. The Skoda Octavia competes with the Toyota Corolla Altis, Hyundai Elantra and Chevrolet Cruze.
