The 2017 Mercedes GLS facelift gets the new S-Class inspired front fascia giving it a younger look as part of the mid-lifecycle update.
The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLS or better known as the GL-Class facelift has been leaked online showing up its revised front and rear fascia. The grand-daddy of all Mercedes SUVs, the GLS was scheduled to be officially unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show held between 20-29th November 2015. Seen in this brochure scan, the mighty GLS confirms the W222 S-Class inspired front grille and headlights that were also seen on the camouflaged spy shots. The model is scheduled for a facelift as part of a mid-lifecycle update.
Similar to the GLE facelift that went on sale in the country earlier this year, the 2017 Mercedes GLS gets the ‘S’ suffix under the automaker’s new nomenclature and has been updated with a more familiar styling. The front fascia looks smarter and younger now with the twin-slat grille giving a bold appearance while the new star crest fits rather well on the SUV. The headlights are slender now featuring DRLs (currently seen on the bumper) along with several new elements while the front bumper gets larger air intakes and slimmer profile.
The side profile remains largely the same infusing the mighty stance while the rear gets tweaked wraparound LED tail lights with softer lines and chrome finished dual exhaust tips. The interiors still remain a mystery, but a host of upgrades are expected including a new steering wheel, redesigned dashboard, newer materials and an updated COMAND infotainment system to be part of the package. Safety systems will be in abundance on the GLS keeping the occupants safe.
The 2017 Mercedes GLS facelift will continue with the same powertrain including a 3.0-litre V6 turbo diesel engine on the GLS350 BlueTEC that will be the mainstay motor in India with power output expected to be the same 258 HP and 619 Nm of torque. Internationally, the SUV will come with a turbo petrol V6 for the GLS450 and a GLS550 using a V8 motor producing 429 HP and 699 Nm of torque. Keeping the Affalterbach tradition in place, the GLS63 AMG will also join the lineup powered by a V8 Bi-Turbo producing a healthy 560 HP and 759 Nm of torque. The AMG version will be coming to India as well.
