Mercedes India launches the AMG G63 Edition 463 and GLS 63 performance SUVs, driving in over a 1150 BHP in a day.
Mercedes has launched the AMG G63 Edition 463 and GLS 63 luxury performance SUVs in India and has priced them at Rs. 2.17 crores and Rs. 1.58 crores respectively (both prices, ex-showroom, Pune).
I’ll start off with the AMG G63 Edition 463. This iconic SUV is powered by a supercharged 5.5-litre V8 engine that is capable of producing 572 HP and a maximum torque of 760 Nm at 5000 RPM. This behemoth of an engine comes paired to an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission. 0-100 km/hr comes in just 5.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 210 km/hr.
Being an AMG product, the G63 Edition 463 features 21-inch AMG cross-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey with high-sheen finish, AMG sport strips on flanks, stainless-steel under-ride guard, etc. The interiors are finished in black leather while the seats and the centre console feature a 2 tone colour option.
The AMG G63 Edition 463 also features a combination of three 100 percent differential locks, an off-road reduction gear and electronic traction system that allows for serious off-roading.
The second launch is the GLS 63 AMG that is based on the GLS SUV. The GLS 63 AMG is powered by a 5.5-litre V8 Bi-Turbo engine that produces 585 HP and 760 Nm of torque. This engine too comes paired to an AMG Speedshift Plus 7G-Tronic transmission.
The GLS 63 AMG comes with a collapsible spare wheel, red-painted brake calipers, panoramic sunroof, LED intelligent light system with integrated LED DRLs, AMG body styling, EASY-PACK tailgate with electrically operated opening and closing functions and mirror package including brand logo projection (puddle lamps).
On the inside, the GLS 63 AMG features an AMG Performance steering wheel done in black nappa leather, temperature-controlled cup holders, front seats with massage function, THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, memory package, heated front and rear seats, Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system and electrically foldable 3rd seat row.
Both the SUVs come with 5 AMG Dynamic Select transmission modes or ride modes – Slippery, Individual, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ and a AMG Ride Control sports suspension with AIRMATIC air suspension. With the launch of these 2 performance SUVs, Mercedes India now offers a total of 9 AMG models in India.
