The 2017 Maruti DZire has been launched in India, price starts at Rs. 5.45 lakhs.
Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2017 iteration of its sub-compact sedan, the DZire today. The 2017 Maruti DZire is priced from Rs. 5.45-9.41 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is available with two engines and with manual and automatic options.
The car sits on a new platform called HEARTACT that is lightweight and strong primarily due to the usage of high tensile steel. The car measures the same length as before, 3995 mm but now stands less taller at 1515 mm and is more wider at 1735 mm. Ground clearance has been reduced to 163 mm but the boot space has been widened up to 376-litres as opposed to 316-litres in the previous generation model.
From the front, the car looks similar to the yet-to-be-launched Swift, except for the chrome garnishes on the grille and the bumper. The projector headlamps, LED DRLs and everything will remind you of the new Swift. The bonnet gets a new design. Overall, the front of the car looks appealing.
Get to the side of the car and instantly noticeable are the new sharp looking 15-inch alloys and the bigger rear doors (which means ingress and the egress are less cumbersome). The sedan sits on a slightly longer wheelbase at 2450 mm and thanks to this, occupants at the rear bench will no longer complain on the legroom. The car looks more well proportioned thanks to its lower and wider stance. The rear gets new LED tail lamps and a redesigned bumper.
Maruti has gone miles to make the interiors look and feel as premium as they are in this new DZire. The company is offering a flat-bottom steering wheel with faux wood inserts and audio controls. There’s a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto and Automatic Climate Control on the top-end variants.
The rear bench is where the DZire impresses us this time. All thanks to the additional wheelbase, there’s more legroom and shoulder room. Maruti has also topped it off with rear AC vents. Overall, the cabin is more roomier and a better place to be in.
Maruti has stuck to the same engines as offered as in its predecessor. The 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine makes 84 HP of power, 114 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The more popular 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine makes 75 HP of power and 190 Nm of torque. The diesel engine also comes mated to a 5-speed manual as well as a 5-speed AMT gearbox. The sedan has a claimed fuel efficiency of 22 km/l for the petrol and 28.40 km/l for the diesel variants.
The new DZire weighs 85 kgs (petrol) and 105 kgs (diesel) lesser than its predecessor. On the safety front, Maruti has made dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts standard on all variants of the DZire. The car is offered in 6 colour choices – Oxford Blue, Arctic White, Silky Silver, Sherwood Brown, Magma Grey and Gallant Red and is available in 4 variants each in petrol and diesel, LXi/LDi, VXi/VDi, ZXi/ZDi and ZXi+/ZDi+.
