Land Rover Discovery 5 has been launched in India at a starting price of Rs. 68.05 lakhs.
The Land Rover Discovery 5 has been launched in India and bookings for the same had begun in August at a starting price of Rs. 68.05 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Land Rover Discovery 5 had been initially showcased at the 2014 New York Auto Show as the Discovery Vision Concept. The latest iteration of the Discovery will give competition to the Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, Mercedes GLS and BMW X5.
Basically a 7-seater family SUV, the Discovery 5 sits above the Discovery Sport in the India line-up. The Discovery 5 is a large SUV and a look at its dimensions makes it evident. The SUV measures 4970 mm in length, 2073 mm in width (mirrors folded) and 1888 mm in height. Sitting on a wheelbase of 2923 mm, the new Discovery 5 features a bold and powerful design with short front overhangs, a rising belt line and a sleek tapered up-swept tail section.
The massive bumper with various air-intakes coupled with the aluminium-like skid plate at the bottom dominates the front end. Adding to the drama are the LED adaptive headlights. The character line at the sides of the car that runs from the front door and meets the tail-lights denotes the length of the car. The tail section is typical Land Rover-Range Rover design with the up-swept styling. The wraparound LED tail-lights and the registration plate housing is unlike we’ve seen on any Land Rover or Range Rover car yet.
The interiors are again typical Land Rover with a neatly-laid dashboard and are reminiscent of the Range Rovers. A 10-inch infotainment system with a 14-speaker Meridian digital surround system is available on the top trims. Other features include intelligent seat fold technology, panoramic sunroof, heads-up display, heated and cooled seats with massage function for the driver and front passenger, 3-zone automatic climate control, start-stop tech and ambient lighting.
The Land Rover Discovery comes with a choice of 3.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. The 3.0-litre petrol engine makes 335 HP and 450 Nm of torque while the 3.0-litre V6 diesel makes 255 HP and 600 Nm of torque. Both these engines come paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and 4WD is offered standard.
Land Rover is offering a whole lot of safety equipment on the Discovery like Hill Descent Control, Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, electric parking brake, ABS with EBD and Dynamic Stability Control.
